Hi! My name is Johanna and I am coaching Girls on the Run for the Spring of 2011 as part of my Senior Capstone Project. The question I am trying to answer for my project is, "How can running on a regular basis encourage both physical and mental confidence in pre-teen girls?" Girls on the Run is a 10-12 week program that combines an interactive curriculum with 5k training to inform girls about healthy living and other issues they may face. Read my blog to learn more about this powerful program!

Day 12!
Today I realized that all of the girls and coaches have become a lot closer and more comfortable with each other since the beginning of the season. It really makes for a positive environment when the girls can joke with each other and have fun while working together. I think there is a direct connection between strong relationships and having confidence, because when others care about you then you are more likely to care about yourself. The Girls on the Run environment of friendship that we have worked to develop is one where girls can be themselves through running. What a wonderful thought :) The girls ran just over 2 miles again today, they are slowly but surely preparing themselves for the 5k! It'll be here sooner than we know it.
